From swelling through to trapped nerves through to impotence, these conditions can vary in severity and importance, so it is always important to seek the attention of a physician, as some require surgery to correct them, and without proper treatment long term sexual performance can be affected.

One of the most common disorders that can affect men is swelling of the foreskin. This condition, properly known as oedema can result from sexual activity, including masturbation. Thankfully, oedema is practically harmless as long as the foreskin is held in its normal position and is not cutting off the blood flow.

Normally, the swelling should subside naturally but if it persists it is important to see a doctor, as this condition could by a symptom of chronic heart disease.

The inability to move the foreskin over the glans is called Paraphimosis. It can be caused by a number of factors including fluid being trapped in the foreskin if it is left retracted or from swelling to the foreskin after hard sex. Paraphimosis can be painful and dangerous. If it lasts for more than a couple of hours, it is essential that you pay a visit to the doctor as soon as possible.

The condition known as Peyronie’s disease, which is characterized by curvature of the penis is one of the most common conditions affecting the penis. It is typically caused by a build up of anomalous scar tissue. There are a number of treatments available, and only very severe cases require surgery.

The pudendal nerve stretches under the penis, and can be damaged by accidents and from cycling. Sufferers of pudendal nerve entrapment will often notice pain when they sit down, a lack of sensation when they have sex, and a loss of orgasm. It is important to seek medical attention under such circumstances as there are other severe medical conditions such as diabetes that can also cause loss of sensation.

If the penis is bent too far, it can be torn. Penile fractures are enormously painful and need to be treated quickly by a doctor to avoid suffering permanent damage.

There is a painful medical condition known as Priapism in which the erection does not subside, and a penis does not return to its flaccid state. While this may seem amusing, there are a number of potential complications that can result from priapism including thrombosis, ischaemia, and long term impotence. If treatment is not forthcoming, Priapism might lead to gangrene, in which case, complete amputation of the penis is the only possible treatment.

Impotence or erectile dysfunction is the most common and best known disorder of the penis. Although there are a lot of different causes, the symptoms of impotence are always the same. It is the inability of a man to achieve an erect penis in order to have sex.
